Non-Destructive Inspection Technician (NDI) III - Buehring, Kuwait

Responsibilities

• Instruct and certify operators and inspectors for NDT methods as outlined in NAS410 or ASNT-CP-189.
• Determine test method, prepare fluids and parts for nondestructive inspection.
• Interpret nondestructive inspection test results and provide defect information to the repair center.
• Analyze wear metal content reports on engine lubricating oil and other fluids and recommend corrective action.
• Establish radiation areas and compute/monitor personal exposure for radiographic operations.
• Perform nondestructive inspection on structures, components, and systems to detect flaws such as cracks, delamination, voids, processing defects, and heat damage using penetrant, eddy current, magnetic particle, radiographic, optical, and ultrasonic test equipment.
• Determine metallurgical information of components according to alloy, temper, conductivity, and associated factors.
• Operate, maintain, and inspect nondestructive equipment.
• Perform operator maintenance and service inspections on shop equipment and tools.
• Ensure lock‑out and tag‑out procedures are accomplished prior to maintenance on equipment.
• Perform silver recovery functions.
• Handle and dispose of hazardous waste and materials.
• Perform other qualified duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and U.S. military technical school or specialized training course, certification of education level required.
• Trained and certified as a LevelIII Examiner for monitoring the NDT program.
• Three (3) years of experience as a Non‑Destructive Inspection (NDI) Technician.
• Valid U.S. passport with at least 3 years remaining before expiration and 6 blank pages.
• Ability to pass and clear CENTCOM Army MOD Physical and deployment requirements.
• Ability to obtain Kuwait PCC clearance and Visa before deployment.
• U.S. citizenship required for clearance and facility credentials.

Security Clearance Requirements

• Obtain and maintain a U.S. Government NAC‑I (T1) Public Trust Security Clearance.
• Obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.

Additional and Preferred Qualifications

• Interpret codes, standards, and contractual documents that control approved NDT methods.
• Assume technical responsibility for the NDT facility and staff.
• Select method and technique for a specific inspection.
• Prepare and verify adequacy of procedures in the certified method.
• Approve NDT procedures and related work instructions for technical adequacy.
• Provide or direct training, examination, and certification of personnel in the certified method.
• Be familiar with the scope and limitations of the certified technique/method.
• Provide guidance and supervision to trainers and personnel in the certified technique/method.
• Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems or other technology applicable to fabrication, repair, operation, and maintenance.
• Efficient record keeping and preparation of reports; review others' work for accuracy and conformity to standards.
• Proficient in the use of the Unit Level Logistics System‑Aviation Enhanced (ULLS‑AE).
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement.
• Knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair, and ability to determine functionality of non‑complex electrical systems.
• Detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
• Ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers.
• Excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule.

Physical Requirements / Working Environment

• Walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods.
• Climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
• Crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee, reach above/below shoulders.
• Lift heavy objects exceeding 50 pounds.
• Type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e‑mail and software applications.
• Handle dirty parts and lubricants.
• Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Pass respirator physical and fit test qualification.
• Operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, and other equipment as required.
• Work in a maintenance shop or outside, in environments that may be drafty, noisy, and dirty.
• Be exposed to extreme noise, electrical shock hazards, or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles.
